Weight loss on Holidays…
Team, welcome to December where our calendar is covered with work breakups, Christmas parties and the big ones, Christmas day and New Years. Now this blog is a tool to help you stay semi accountable and hopefully stop you from putting on the 6kgs you lost this year, back on…
Now, as spoken about in the disclaimer I think your holidays should be spent with family laughing, loving and eating. However, in the lead up I really don’t think we should be absolute garbage disposals either. You have 52 weeks of the year. The holidays are NOT the problem, it’s the other 51 weeks of the year. ALAS, I am not talking about those weeks in this blog, I will try not to go off on a tangent…
Before I carry on too much, I still think its very important to understand that even though we’re on a holiday it doesn’t mean we NEED to eat to failure AND avoid all forms of exercise. For some strange reason we justify not being in our house (Caravan, AIR BNB, Grandmas, Bali whatever), as an excuse to eat like it’s our last meal. This isn’t a one-off thing either, this is a regular occurrence in every big meal. Portion control will still help you even thought you’re away. You can put the fork/spoon down and still grab a doggy bag.
NEAT – Now, my favorite one; Non exercise activity thermogenesis, i.e. all of your non gym activity. This is probably my favorite tip for holidays, get out and get moving. You’re on a holiday, hopefully in a new place with new sites, new smells, new people, new adventures! Go and explore that shit. Take your joggers or comfy pluggers and get up and explore. Don’t be a couch potato.
Caloric drinks another holiday killer. I know we’re on holidays… but don’t pretend that you’re allergic to water. Water does so many wonders for our body, yet we begin to substitute it for an unreasonable amount of coffee, soft drink and alcohol. I am not saying don’t enjoy those things, I do suggest we fill ourselves with water first, not only will you feel better but you’ll inadvertently lower the consumption of those mentioned above. Once you nail that water lets solve another problem (calories) by choosing better calorie options. It’s 2022 and there are hundreds of lower calorie substitutes… Use them. Do they taste as great as the original? Hell no… But this will be a big contributor to saving thousands of calories.
Again, make sure you enjoy your holidays, but don’t be a complete toddler with your lifestyle choices.
Merry Christmas – Love from the fitness Grinch, Johno
